Wordpress and Microsoft just announced a partnership today that will make Wordpress.com the default blogging program for Windows Live.
WPxMS
I must admit that I feel this partnership will more than likely work out better for WordPress than it will for Windows Live. But great for WordPress – the platform that we support here at New Home Feed!

Have you heard about Google Instant? This new feature shows your search query as soon as you begin typing. For example, type “W” into Google and you get “weather.” Check it out for yourself.
The question now rippling through the search world is: how will this impact SEO, and paid search?
Matt Cutts, the Google guy in charge of fighting spam, and who speaks about search issues, has spoken his mind on how he things this will impact the search world (it will). The money quote on SEO strikes us as this:
Q: Will Google Instant change search engine optimization?
A: I think over time it might. The search results will remain the same for a query, but it’s possible that people will learn to search differently over time. For example, I was recently researching a congressperson. With Google Instant, it was more visible to me that this congressperson had proposed an energy plan, so I refined my search to learn more, and quickly found myself reading a post on the congressperson’s blog that had been on page 2 of the search results.
So the refining of a query will impact just how people search. Think about “homes for sale in Las Vegas” as a query. Type “L” and you get “Las Vegas.” But those “longer tail” keywords will take more effort to reach. And these “long tail” keywords bring us to paid search marketing. A good Google SEM wizard knows the long tail keywords are where we see the best results. But if it takes more effort to reach them, we may see the results dwindling. Because previously, when a user ran search, your ad either appeared or it didn’t. But because Google Instant constantly updates, and because it will speed things up, ads appearing – and being clicked – may reduce. The ads will now only appear for a fraction of a second (it seems). And Google is warning advertisers to expect changes. Says Google,
“We expect Google Instant will help users find what they’re looking for faster. With this change, you might notice some fluctuations in AdWords impression volume and traffic for organic keywords.”
So will Google lose search money? Probably not. Why? Because a search marketing pro knows that broad match keywords are not usually the best buy. Why bid on “Las Vegas” and waste impressions when you can bid on “Las Vegas Homes for sale” instead? So it would seem that now, the advertisers of “Las Vegas homes for sale” will now have to buy that bid on “Las Vegas” to compete.
More coverage on this subject here.
This obviously will continue to be major news in the search world, and will impact many of the wise builders who read this blog and who engage in search marketing. We will be monitoring this and speaking directly to our clients on this subject as any major changes occur.
